About the Program

The project empowers young men and women in Kakuma refugee camp by providing comprehensive training in solar technology and entrepreneurship. They aim to reach young men and young women and equip them with the necessary skills to create and take advantage of employment opportunities in the solar industry. This is in response to the high levels of unemployment and limited access to quality education in the camp.


WHO QUALIFIES?
The program is open to young women and men  (aged 18-35 years). Young refugees are encouraged to apply.

Location

The program operates in Turkana County.

Implementing Partner

Okapi Green Energy doubles as a youth-led and refugee-led organization whose efforts have been geared towards enhancing the value of youth contributions to the energy sector and leveraging the vast employment opportunities in Kakuma. By providing out-of-school youth refugees with the necessary education and skills in solar installation and maintenance, Okapi has enabled them to access job opportunities. Furthermore, the organization has placed special emphasis on encouraging young girls to explore future opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
